Title:
Students Environmental Bill of Rights - Taking action to eliminate toxins in schools
Publication Date:
October 2005
Abstract:
Initiative for students sponsored by the Labour Environmental Alliance Society (BC-based). The Bill of Rights, drafted by the Environmental Law Centre at the University of Victoria, affirms the right of students and their parents to know what toxic substances they could be exposed to in the school environment and gives them the right to avoid exposure if a substance could cause them harm. Launched in conjunction with 2005 BC school board and municipal elections, Trustee candidates were asked to express their support. The initiative continues beyond the election as school communities push their local districts to endorse the Bill of Rights and to move towards toxins-free schools.
