CPCHE does not have a specific position on EMFs though we recognize this as an area of highly complex information and one where scientific evidence about health concerns is inconsistent and controversial. Notably, the International Agency for Reseach on Cancer announced on May 31, 2011 that it has classified Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields (i.e., those emitted from cell phones) as being possibly carcinogenic in humans (the Group 2B IARC designation).
Toronto Public Health, one of CPCHE's partner organizations, prepared a technical report in 2007 reviewing the literature on radiofrequencies and has created fact sheets on cell phone use and human health and radiofrequencies. See also the Toronto Public Health Radiation and Health webpage with links to a broader range of information on this topic.
